MEMPHIS, Tenn. — Training on the Memphis supercluster computer is now underway at the xAI in Memphis, Elon Musk said.

Musk posted on X Monday that training started at 4:20 a.m. and is the most powerful AI training cluster in the world.
“This is a significant advantage in training the world’s most powerful AI by every metric by December this year,” Musk wrote.
According to Elon Musk’s Jet Tracker, his plane landed in Memphis on Sunday 22 hours ago and left on Monday afternoon, just 30 minutes ago.
Elon Musk’s xAI company will be the largest, capital investment by a new-to-market company in the city’s history.
Tennessee Valley Authority says, “TVA does not have a contract in place with xAI. We are working with xAI and our partners at MLGW on the details of the proposal and electricity demand needs.” However, they also noted that TVA approval is required for any project over 100 Megawatts to connect to the power system.
Earlier this month, MLGW President Doug McGowen shared that xAI could use up to 150 megawatts of power at peak times.
We asked MLGW if xAI is already on the grid. They said the company moved into an existing building with existing utility services. McGowen also said he is working to make sure this major move doesn’t impact the local utility.
Many Memphians have questions, as well. MLGW says they plan to host public forums soon and details will be announced in the coming days.
