Stop & Shop to close 10 ‘underperforming’ locations across New Jersey
Stop & Shop announced it is set to close 32 underperforming stores across the country by the end of the year, including 10 in New Jersey.
Stop & Shop executives announced they will be closing those stores down before Nov. 2. They say the move is to “position the company for growth.”
Stores are also closing in New York, Connecticut, New Jersey, Rhode Island and Massachusetts.
Customers say some of the stores have been a community staple for years, and it’s closer to home for many shoppers.
According to Stop & Shop, all associates at impacted locations will be offered other opportunities within the company. They say there will not be any layoffs.
Some shoppers in Point Pleasant Beach say their store made things easier for the elderly community nearby. The store is also known to hire residents with special needs.
Stop & Shop still has more than 350 other stores, including 91 in New Jersey. The company says that store executives will continue to have a strong presence at those locations.
