Oil, Gas Mining Approvals Sent Back to Bureau of Indian Affairs


The Bureau of Indian Affairs was ordered Thursday by a federal court to take another look at the environmental impact of an oil and gas mining project in Oklahoma.

Judge Jane A. Restani remanded the challenged documents—the leasing programmatic environmental assessment and finding of no significant impact—in addition to two lease approvals to BIA. But the judge didn’t outright vacate the approvals or documents.

She said in November that the agency’s approvals of the leases and National Environmental Policy Act review were arbitrary and capricious.
