Local perks for National Ice Cream Day
AUSTIN (KXAN) — Sunday is National Ice Cream Day and what better way to beat the summer heat than with ice cream from your local favorites.
According to the International Dairy Foods Association, in 1984 former President Ronald Reagan named July National Ice Cream Month and the third Sunday in July as National Ice Cream Day.
A number of local ice cream shops in Austin have already begun planning special menu items and promotions. We have compiled a list of places for you to stop by this Sunday to have a special treat and celebrate.
Lick Honest Ice Creams
Lick’s has decided to “pay it forward” this National Ice Cream Day by partnering with Tiny Pies. They have created a new flavor called Lemon Lime Meringue Pie. With every purchase of this new flavor the proceeds will go to benefit the Ronald McDonald House Charities chapter located in Central Texas.
Amy’s Ice Creams
Texas ice cream chain Amy’s Ice Creams kicked off their National Ice Cream Day celebration by announcing a giveaway on their social media. Amy’s is giving away a free three-month subscription to their Sweet Flex Box. For more on how to enter, visit its social media page.
Jo’s Coffee
Austin coffee shop Jo’s Coffee says “I scream for national scream day.” They wanna make sure everyone gets a chance to eat delicious ice cream on this special day by offering $3 affogatos, an Italian dessert that consists of a scoop of ice cream paired with hot espresso.
Uncle Nicky’s Italian Specialties
Uncle Nicky’s Italian eatery is celebrating this year’s National Ice Cream Day by serving up their famous Italian custard for only $2. The flavors they are offering are strawberry, espresso, lemon and pistachio.
Dairy Queen
The multinational fast food chain Dairy Queen is offering special perks exclusively to mobile app members. Members can expect to receive a free Dilly Bar made with DQ’s signature vanilla soft serve ice cream, with a DQ Texas app purchase.
Museum of Ice Cream
The Austin Museum of Ice Cream is partnering up with Texas’s original homemade Blue Bell Creameries. The museum and Blue Bell will give away free vanilla and chocolate ice cream cups from a bright pink ice cream truck that will be located in front of Music Lane.
The event will take place Saturday from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. at 1011 S. Congress Ave., Bldg. 1, Ste. 120.
