A triaxle truck blew an engine at the intersection of U.S. Route 30 and state Route 711 Monday morning, spilling oil all through the Diamond and shutting down the road.
Route 711, which runs through the Diamond, was closed for about an hour before reopening just before 9:30 a.m.
Crews from Ligonier Valley Police Department, Ligonier Borough Public Works, Ligonier Volunteer Hose Company No. 1 and the Pennsylvania Department of Transportation all responded, assisting with traffic control and cleanup.
Ligonier Valley Police Chief Michael Matrunics said there appeared to be no puddling of oil or runoff into nearby drains.
A PennDOT vehicle laid down oil absorbent powder from the U.S. 30/Route711 intersection through the Diamond and up to nearly East Church Street where the triaxle came to a stop.
Matrunics said he would continue monitoring the road after it reopens to ensure there are no issues. With the way the powder works, having the vehicles drive over it will help with cleanup, he said.
