Hawaiian, Alaska airlines clear key hurdle in merger deal

HONOLULU (KHON2) — Hawaiian Airlines and Alaska Airlines said they have met a crucial milestone in Alaska’s proposed buyout of the local airline.

According to stock filings on Tuesday, the airlines stated they have “substantially complied with a second request of more detailed information and materials from the Department of Justice.”

The DOJ had asked the companies in February for documents in order for antitrust regulators to review the merger.

The airlines agreed not to finish the deal any sooner than 90 days following the date on which both parties certified substantial compliance, unless they get written notice from the DOJ beforehand that the regulators have closed the investigation of the merger.

The filing said “Hawaiian and Alaska have been working cooperatively with the DOJ and expect to continue to do so.”
