GILLETTE, Wyo. — A Gillette man is out tens of thousands of dollars after reportedly falling victim to a cryptocurrency scam this past weekend, Deputy Police Chief Brent Wasson said Monday morning.

The man — identified on April 29 as a 50-year-old resident — notified officers of the scam around 11 a.m. April 26, stating he lost money after being added to a group chat on WhatsApp, Wasson said.

The individuals in the group chat wanted to explain how to make money through cryptocurrency using apps called “DYIG” and “KYWALL,” per Wasson, adding that one individual provided investment instructions.

As of April 29, the 50-year-old man has sent $50,000, and the investigation is ongoing, Wasson said.
