Farmers Market introducing kids to food

HAZARD, Ky. (WYMT) – One Eastern Kentucky farmers market is working to educate children on all things food.
Throughout June, the Perry County Farmers Market is celebrating its ‘Kids Month.’
Jennifer Weeber said officials with FoodCorps will be working with children, introducing them to new things.
“We have our FoodCorps members who have been serving in each of the Perry County elementary schools throughout the year will be here every market, every Saturday, and every Thursday evening with some sort of activity for kids,” she said.
On the market’s opening day for the summer season, kids got to try different types of hummus.
Weeber said it is good to interact with families in the community.
“They’ll be hands-on activities, there’ll be a lot of fun things for kids to do. So, kids can do their activities while their parents are shopping. It’s a great way to get kids introduced maybe to new foods, have them learn a little bit on their summer vacation, and all that good stuff,” she explained.
Weeber said each week they will have new activities for kids.
The market is open each Thursday from 4 p.m. until 7 p.m. and each Saturday from 8 a.m. until 12 p.m.
