Crash in Lee county involves truck tractor towing barrels of crude oil

LEE COUNTY, Texas (KBTX) – A fiery crash on 290 in Lee County Sunday morning sent two people to the hospital.

According to DPS, it happened around 10:49 am near the intersection of US 290 and FM 180 in Lee County.

DPS says a truck tractor towing a trailer carrying barrels of crude oil, was attempting to enter the eastbound lane on US 290. An SUV, occupied by a male and female passenger, was heading eastbound on US 290. The trailer and SUV struck each other. As a result of the crash, the vehicle caught fire.

The occupants of the SUV were taken to a medical facility for treatment.

Lee County EMS posted a thank you on social media to all the departments involved in this tanker explosion. The post says everyone came together quickly, including Giddings FD, South Lee County FD, Lincoln FD, Giddings PD, Lee County Sheriffs Department, the Texas Department of Public Safety and Fayette County EMS.

The post also says Lee County EMS paramedics loaded and cared for the two critically injured patients that they transported to Austin.
