Burgum talks oil, national issues and Trump at Williston Basin Petroleum
BISMARCK, N.D. (KFYR) – The Williston Basin Petroleum Conference wrapped up on Thursday with Governor Doug Burgum taking the stage. The governor not only discussed energy and oil in North Dakota but also why the country needs former President Trump back in office.
Burgum said as a country, we went from having the wind at our backs. He said energy security is core to national security and that the world was stable. He said this was all happening when former President Trump was in office.
Burgum said it’s fantastic that North Dakota hit five billion barrels, but the state would have hit it faster with a different administration. He said we are at 1.2 million barrels a day now and the state was at 1.5 when Joe Biden took office.
“North Dakota is down, Iran’s up, Venezuela is way up. The failed sanctions of the State Department, the Commerce Department, the Treasury Department are allowing those countries to have record oil sales which they are using to fund wars against the United States,” said Burgum.
Burgum said we are in a proxy war with both Russia and Iran. He said our Congress fights about whether we should supply revenue to support our allies and the funding from the other side is coming from oil sales because of President Biden’s energy policies. Burgum said that wasn’t a political statement, it was just an actual economic fact.
Burgum ended his remarks by saying the U.S. needs to make sure we have an administration in the White House this Fall that understands what oil and energy producers do to make the world safe and America prosperous.
