Reader Opinion: Data mining permits – Brainerd Dispatch

There’s so much more to this type of project than the land it occupies, than the noise it generates, than the energy it consumes, than the adjacent dead space it creates, than the heat it produces, than the potential fire danger and certainly more than the sparse payroll it will contribute. There is absolutely no value added. Not for the city, not for the county and certainly not for nearby residents. The only reason for locating this “facility” in Brainerd is because metro and urban areas want no part in this type of operation.

The end users of this project are those cyber gluttons that will never have enough power or presence to collect, process and store data on their own equipment. They are the only beneficiaries and it’s certainly not the residents of Brainerd or Crow Wing County.
